How MTV silently killed Michael Jackson (vids)

In 1989, Michael Jackson won the MTV Video Vanguard Award. Two years later, the network gave the award its name, and since then has been awarding the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award every year.
That was until last Monday, when MTV during the awards ceremony quietly and unknowingly removed the King of Pop name from the award. Michael Jackson is now the story of the MTV Music Awards ...

As MTV reported last month, MTV would remove Jackson's name from the award after reactions to HBO's controversial documentary "Leaving Neverland." The documentary focuses on allegations of sexual abuse against the star.

MTV included Jackson's name in a press release sent to announce Miss Eliot as this year's winner of the Video Vanguard Prize - but some advertisers excluded her name, which was not heard at the ceremony. Eliot said in her testimony: "The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Prize is so important to me," before thanking Janet Jackson for her friendship.
