So I've been doing reading and thinking about if the estate would release something to commemorate 50 years of Michaels solo career this year. The most likely thing I think we could expect would be some over-priced clothing on the MJ website at best, if you want to have wishful-thinking you can hope for maybe a new single or remastered short films like Thriller or Ghosts to be made public on the MJ youtube channel. However unfortunate it is to not set any expectations for what they will release, I think I know why:
Right now, if the estate were to release a new MJ song or album, there would undoubtedly be backlash from those that believe the accusations. "Why is that important if any projects are for the fans?" Because the estate has made it clear that they want their projects to be mainstream media projects. Xscape was a big deal back in 2014 when it was released (ignoring how we feel about the remixes) and people liked it and the (shitty) hologram performance. People liked the Bad25 release, the Motown to Off The Wall documentary; as well as the release of Thriller in select theaters a couple years ago. All those projects made headlines in the general public. My point is that if they were to release something, it would be a "go big or go home" type of thing, and only if they were very certain that it would sell well.
We know the estate are very money hungry (example, the $600 dollar this is it box) and if it will generate a lot of money, they'd do it, but the problem is that Michael Jackson unfortunately is a name very marred with controversy, especially in the US. Leaving Neverland as we all know has absolutely f*cked MJ's reputation with the general public far more than we ever could have feared. And the estate would not release a big project like a new album or a new concert/documentary etc. . . I think until Michael's name is cleared. Right now as I write this, W*de R*bson's case is being seen by an arbitrator if I'm not mistaken, and S*fechuck's case has been thrown out. Not to mention Taj Jackson's documentary he's making is set to come out within the next year and he's looking to get it published on a big platform like Netflix or Amazon Prime.
My point in all this is that, if anything happens this year, I sadly doubt it would be as grandiose as we might want it to be. However, without a doubt, when the truth rises above the ashes and Michael's name is cleared, then I believe we'll see the projects like a new concert or album that we've been wanting.
What do you guys think of my theory? I hope I made sense haha. Let me know what you guys think about my thought! Any thoughts are welcome!
