Personally I want to say that its either Bad or Dangerous as MJ's best album, but I feel like Off The Wall might be his best work (in my opinion) with the aforementioned coming in behind. I just feel that although all the songs on OTW aren't MJ's biggest hits, that they're all good nonetheless. There's no bad song on the album, there are songs that arent top tier (girlfriend) but most of the songs are good. Whereas with Dangerous, I find myself skipping songs like She Drives me Wild, Gone too Soon, or Keep the Faith unless I'm in the mood for it; but with OTW, all the songs I don't skip (except DSTYGE bc it has to be one of the most overplayed MJ songs). Plus I feel that in the general public, aside from Thriller OTW is what people who aren't MJ fans might say is his best (I could be wrong though)

I know no one asked for this, but heres how I view Michael's albums (the adult ones from when he was alive) to hopefully help explain my point:

Off The Wall - Overall the best album, probably only one or two skippable songs max, but otherwise just about every song is a bop
Thriller - F * cking good album, but really we're all there for the big three (Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller), PYT and Baby be Mine are good, as well but the whole album is highly overrated by critics who compare everything else to this album as opposed to just letting them be different
BAD - If it weren't for Just Good Friends (APOM annoys the hell out of me sometimes tbh) this I'd say is his best IMO. People shouldn't compare it with thriller, they are vastly different albums. The number ones from this album are some of MJ's best songs for sure.
Dangerous- arguably the most unique MJ album, in the sense that he almost made a return to his original funk sound. Overall a great album and severely underrated, but the songs run a bit long and not a huge fan of She Drives me Wild among others.
HIStory - Hella over-hated album, some of MJ's best adult vocals, Come Together could have been replaced with another song TBH, gets a bit slow at times, but still a good album, not his best work, but still some high quality stuff, if it were released today I'm sure it would be a huge hit.
Blood on the Dance floor - I know its not really an album but BOTDF and Ghosts are good songs, I could do w/o Superfly Sister, I still like it though.
Invincible - I go in between on this album, I love songs like You Rock My World, Butterflies, Heartbreaker, and (don't kill me) 2000 Watts. But on the other hand songs like Unbreakable, You Are My Life, The Lost Children, Don't Walk Away feel like songs that could have easily been replaced with Xscape, I Like the Way You love me, or Another Day.

So ya, again I know no one asked haha, but those are my opinions, in my personal ranking I'd say: Bad, OTW, Dangerous, Thriller, HIStory, Invincible. the only thing I can for sure is that I feel OTW is his best work with Bad at a close second, the rest is too difficult to decide.

You can trace Timbaland and the Neptunes experiments to a song like “She Drives Me Wild,” in which their former mentor created the percussion tracks from automotive sounds: car horns, motorcycles idling and revving, vehicles starting and screeching.

According to his engineer, Bruce Swedien, Michael was searching for something “very street that young people would be able to identify with.”

When Jackson revealed the final tracklist to Riley, the latter expected to see his name once or twice. Instead, Riley produced six of the 14 songs—arguably all the material that has aged the best. As a result of his contributions, you can convincingly argue that Dangerous is Jackson’s final classic album and the best full-length of the New Jack Swing era.

Dangerous has its flaws. The ballads on the back (non-Riley) half of the album could pass for gospel renditions of Celine Dion schmaltz. Despite its noble message and Jackson’s statement that it was the song he was most proud of writing, “Heal the World” is essentially “We Are The World Pt. 2.” The theme from Free Willy, “Will You Be There” offers a sweet sentiment, but it’s not exactly “I Believe I Can Fly.” “Gone Too Soon” falls into that same category of beautifully intentioned crooning that ultimately sounds like a dentist office doxology, especially when contrasted with the brilliant funk of the first side.

Opinions, (bad is my favorite album)

Off The Wall (1979) - There is no bad song on this album, except the 2 skippable songs Girlfriend and Don't Stop Till You Get Enough. (9/10)

Thriller (1982) - Basically a greatest hits album, it has Billie Jean, Thriller, Beat It and others. If it weren't for The Girl Is Mine and The Lady In My Life this would be my favorite album from his adult discography. (9/10)

Bad (1987) - Easily the best Jackson album, unique sound on every song. Has songs like Bad, TWYMMF, APOM, and Leave Me Alone. It would've been a perfect album if Speed Demon and Just Good Friends were removed from the album or replaced with something like Streetwalker or I'm So Blue. (9.5 / 10)

Dangerous (1991) - Sounds like an experimental album, its a mix of pop and new jack swing which is what I'm not really used to but meh. Most song's are repetitive like WYWTOM, SDMW, CLHGA, and Dangerous are the same song and you cannot change my mind. The albums title track "Dangerous" is 7 minutes of the same sounds with the only thing saving it is the chorus. It has hits like Remember The Time, Black or White, Jam, ITC, and Who Is It. (6.5 / 10)

HIStory (1995) - Honestly an artist's most personal album ever released, this album has songs like Scream, TDCAU, SIM, Earth Song, Tabloid Junkie, and 2Bad, If it weren't for the filler tracks like Money, Come Together, and DS (i hate that song so fucking much) .... It would've been really close to my favorite album. (8.5 / 10

BOTDF (1997) - Shit album, I'd say there's about 3 good tracks on this "album". The albums title track BOTDF, Ghosts, and Morphine. Is It Scary is a blatant copy of Ghosts and the remixes I can't even bother with them. Should've been released as an EP instead of an album. (3/10)

Invincible (2001) - Yet another shit album, Michael was heavily on drugs during the production of this album, hell he wasn't even fully involved during the production of Invincible. Invincible faces the same problems Dangerous did which is REPETITVE TRACKS , Invincible ,, and Threatened are the same songs and you cannot change my mind. This album is a hit or run, you got good songs like YRMW and Unbreakable. The rest of the album feels like its been rushed or its auto tune bullshit. Cry, Lost Children, 2000 Watts, and literally every track I didn't name are either filler songs or genuine trash. (1.5 / 10)
