Yes, you're right. I see that side of him too, his playful and provocative side, as well as his way of challenging the rules. And I love that when it comes to M.Levis: What was a stupid strategy to make him seem eccentric, which perhaps started as a joke, unfortunately took a nasty turn. He enjoyed cartoons, movies, playing with water, and ?(as in the Three Stooges movies) reading—activities that are quite boring for the adult world, which for many means becoming serious, indulging in excesses and adult activities, etc. And I often consider him to be a big troll... I mean, when I was in Japan at that official meeting during the first leg of the Bad tour with officials and journalists, and I was with Bubbles sharing a cup of tea—yes, I was trolling.

In my opinion, it wasn't boring at all. I mean, I was a geek (or rather, a fantasy geek), and I totally identify with that. I prefer that entertainment a thousand times more than, as you mention, adult excesses, especially smoking (including joints) and/or excessive alcohol consumption (and, in many cases, other drugs, of course).
I see Bubbles' behavior at that Japanese meeting more like Michael Jackson being Michael Jackson : a person with a markedly eccentric (but calm) tone, who clearly deviated from the usual social conventions . Eccentricity was an asset he used in his presentation to the public and the press, but I sincerely believe that it was not feigned, except when he himself spread the word—through representatives or whoever—of certain habits that, as I say, were out of the ordinary (without being criminal, of course), and sooner or later, it backfired.
I can relate to that too, which is why I used the quotes "for the word boring"; boring to the rest of the world, after all, he was a rich superstar (and those superstars usually indulge in partying, recreational drugs, drinking, army of women, etc.).
I'm a sucker for fantasy, I like cartoons, old comedy, as for playing with water or cream cakes I stopped doing it because people around me commented that I'm not a child anymore.
This is what I like about him, that he was himself, unapologetic, fearless.
As for having the luxury of living among people, I refrain from being myself in public, because I know what their reaction will be.
In his case, I think Michael didn't know people very well, because he lived in his own bubble from a young age. And I don't think anyone really warned him that some things could be misinterpreted, which is why the media speculated about it.
